3rd week

my third week has passed with some good progress being made. i finally presented a good lesson today, the only truly good one so far (only took 3 weeks!) but hey, at least i got there. not sure what the next week will bring however as i will be taking the 'difficult' year 9's. today they really made a mess of themselves in one class, their behaviour was pretty bad. i have no idea what will happen when i take them. i only hope the outcome will be to get half the class to do half the work, and i'll call that a success.

Comments:
I am sure you have presented more then one good lesson!!! I hope the year 9 class aren't as evil as they sound, but don't worry, if they choose not to learn, that's their choice!

Well as of today I think I've presented 3 good lessons :) I think I've finally figured out how to do it. You just have to do what they expect and what makes it easy for them. I was pushing the boundary a bit today in the maths a class though, when i made up some problems to do with scale factors and maps, i made a problem that had a scale factor of 50million, it was too much for some of them to use such a big number. Anyway, they'll get over it, they have to deal with big numbers some time and the sooner they do they better they'll be when they meet it in real life.
Actaully i'm taking the 9's this wednesday for a lesson on ray diagrams. i'm going to do it with bouncing a laser pointer off mirrors blue tacked to the board, so hopefully it will grab their attention and they'll get into it.
Actually they're not that evil. As a group they are terrible, but talking to them one on one they are great. They just behave badly all together or in front of their friends.
