one day...
one day i'm going to build a really cool boat like this one, earthrace and go round the world. mine will run on pure vegetable oil and hydrogen, use electric generators and motors, solar panels, jet-drives and cross the atlantic cruising at 30 knots on a single tank of canola oil. that would be something.

how cool is that?
i wish i had a few billion dollars so i could buy my own island in 'the world'
and a few boats to get me there and moor up outside
and a few houses so when friends come over they can stay in their own guesthouse
and then we could play pirates and raid all the neighbouring islands
and then rape and pillage and claim them for our own
and then drill for oil, and then...
this is starting to sound familiar, i think someone has done this before?

walk
i went for a walk on the weekend with one of my old flatmates. we visited lamington national park and did the coomera circuit. it was a relatively easy graded track for 18km with no steep hills, lots of fun creek crossings and lots of little water falls, plus the spectacular coomera falls. i wish i had a camera for a photo. the viewing platform was on the edge of a cliff with wire frame floor so you could see straight through it and down, down, down, all the way straight down to the pool of water directly below. it was a bit vertigo inducing walking on the platform and seeing nothing below, but the view was awesome. the falls were falling (duh!) and there was a nice spray drifting across the small gorge. i highly recommend the walk if you happen to be in the area and have a spare 4 hours (plus driving time).

talk
well would you believe it, it has only taken me three decades to learn how to talk properly! since i was having trouble talking loud enough to get the attention of a class of students i went and saw a speech pathologist to help me learn how to use my voice properly and safely to get volume and range out of it. and now i can! it's amazing. i can now yell with relative ease and at great volume. a very handy skill for a teacher to learn.
the moral of the story,
the ability to learn and perform a task is within each one
it just takes someone who knows the techniques
to be able to bring the ability to the surface

another day
i just discovered that making your own biodiesel attracts a government excise of $0.38143 per litre. i've been investigating making my own fuel for use in a diesel engine (when i buy one - after i get a job) and it turns out i can't do it for free. i have to pay the government a tax. i may be able to get the tax refunded, but i have to pay it out in the first place! the world is a crazy greedy place.
